BIHAĆ, February 21 (FENA) - The UN Resident Coordinator for BiH Sezin Sinanoglu said today, during her visit to the Una-Sana Canton, that the migrant crisis should not only be the problem of this canton, and that the assistance and help of the state is of utmost importance.

“I talked to the Cantonal Prime Minister about the aspects of the present situation in the Una-Sana Canton area, or some of the two main segments. We are looking for solutions to help people in need, especially vulnerable categories of this population.

Together we are looking for the best ways to protect families with unaccompanied children and minors.

The second aspect is surely helping local population, who are facing a set of new challenges and problems. That is why I must thank the citizens and authorities of the USC, who have been well organized and helped migrants and refugees, but they must not be left to themselves. The state has to take responsibility,” underlined Sinanoglu.

The USC Prime Minister Mustafa Ružnić stressed the necessity of support and engagement of international organizations in this situation.

“Without this support we would probably be in a hopeless situation. We reiterated our common position that the state must take control over the migrant crisis in the area of the canton. We are trying to intensify this pressure, because all the information that we have received show that we will face the new migrant wave in April and May. We really hope that we would not be left only with empty promises,” said Ružnić.

At today's meeting, representatives of the UN in BiH and the Una-Sana Canton Government discussed the projects implemented so far in the local communities and ways of joint action in the coming period.
