SARAJEVO, February 18 (FENA) - Media workshop "Reporting on Migrants and Refugees #TačnoJeBitno (Accurate Matters)", where representatives of media and international organizations discussed ways to improve reporting on migrations, was organized in Sarajevo today by the EU Delegation to BiH and Association "BH Journalists".

Head of Communications of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative to BiH Jamila Milović-Halilović emphasized that media need to present accurate, objective and proper information on migrants as much as possible, because media reports can definitely affect final perception of the situation, not only the BiH public, but also ways of the EU's assistance in solving this problem.

"We will try and answer how emotions can shade possible facts, whether statements of politicians managed to 'steal' the story and whether right terminology has been used," emphasized Milović-Halilović, adding there are many more questions they will answer and try and identify good and bad examples from practice.

She reminded that the European Union has invested around nine million euros to help migrants in BiH and that another 13 million euros was allocated a few days ago to help BiH authorities and partners.

Representative of "BH Journalists" Association Rea Adilagić, who worked on Report on ways media report on migration and refugees in BiH, said the research includes 100 media reports from 14 BiH media outlets, including media in Una-Sana Canton, public broadcasters and biggest news portals.

She emphasized most reports presented migrants as offenders and it was determined in the report that only 13 to 15 percent of media reports were objective.

Adilagić added that Report also includes recommendations for the media on ways to report on migrants and refugees

Workshop was also attended by reporters from Una-Sana Canton by video link, representatives of the International Organization for Migration in BiH (IOM), UNHCR and numerous editors and reporters of BiH media.
