Migrant crisis endangering business activities in area of Una-Sana Canton

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 15 (FENA) - Association of Employers of the Federation of BiH (FBiH EA) and Employers' Group of Una-Sana Canton (USC) within the FBiH EA warned of the more complexed economic situation and decrease of business activities in area of USC, which is mostly caused by migrant crisis which is expressed in area of this canton the most.

"Decrease of business activities in area of Una-Sana Canton is additionally complicated by migrant crisis and presence of great number of migrants. Inadequate soutions of migrant status resulted in increased level of insecurity. Fact that there has been significant increase in number of educated people from USC leaving to third world countries is especially concerning, which is caused by decrease of business activities and investments,"  FBiH EA and USC Employers' Group emphasized in a press release.

Furthermore, they stated that Una-Sana Canton, especially the City of Bihać where there is the only National Park in FBiH, Una National Park, placed the focus in their development strategies on strengthening of tourist offer and tourist potential, which would additionally develop other economic activities. There is justified fear that the migrant crisis will have a negative impact on arrival of tourists in USC and development of tourism, which will directly and indirectly endanger other economic branches from area of this canton.

"Unfortunately there are no indications that the migrant crisis could improve this year. On the contrary, we learnt from some relevant sources that IOM is already planning its activities for the next three years and even longer in area of USC. Inadequate support from the state institutions to solve problems with migrants in formal and legal way, constant dissatisfaction of migrants with conditions and their status could soon lead to escalation of the crisis, which would endanger business activities in area of USC even more," warn FBiH EA and USC Employers' Group.
