SARAJEVO, February 13 (FENA) - Reforms in education and implementation of measures in the area of employment and social policy were some of the topics of today's, third meeting of the Subcommittee on Innovation, Information Society and Social Policy between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This subcommittee is one of the seven established joint bodies between the European Union and BiH in accordance with the Stabilization and Association Agreement in order to monitor its implementation.

The participants discussed the implementation of reforms in university education, higher education and adult education, and the development and implementation of the legal framework in the field of information society, electronic communications and audiovisual policy and the media, as well as research and innovation capacities.

On behalf of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, Biljana Čamur-Veselinović, confirmed to journalists that BiH has done a lot to establish education committees by adopting certain documents and improving statistics.

She singled out projects related to the establishment of a link between education and labor market needs, and the adopted common core curricula while the process is being monitored by the Agency for Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education.

Veselinović also noted that there is also a platform adopted by the Council of Ministers at the proposal of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, which foresees further processes of education reform at all levels, as well as the adoption of standards in the field of higher education.

Speaking about the need for better education statistics, she explained that the scope of indicators that agencies and statistics’ offices use is not sufficient for unified quality data.

“They also have problems with shortage in personnel and financial resources, but it is necessary to develop indicators in line with EU standards and with what UNESCO proposes, and the goal is to jointly come up with new methodologies, patterns and indicators definitions,” she explained.

When it comes to the field of communications and the media, the regulation aspect was discussed, and Čamur-Veselinović reminded that BiH has adopted the Revised Framework Strategy for Science Development by 2022.

“Progress has also been made in the participation of BiH in the Horizon Program of the European Union as a research program, and more than five million euros have been withdrawn through various projects, and progress has been noticeable in the Erasmus program as well,” she pointed out.

On behalf of the European Commission, the meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Head of the Department for Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Directorate General, Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Georg Ziegler.
