All migrants currently on territory of BiH accommodated in reception centers

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 11 (FENA) - The operational headquarters for migration issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina today discussed the ongoing security and humanitarian situation, as well as a plan for the activities of the competent institutions in the coming period.

Due to poor weather conditions, migrant inflow has been significantly reduced, with 1,045 new migrants registered since the beginning of 2019.

There are currently around 3,900 migrants in the territory of BiH, and they are all located in seven reception centers in Bihać, Sarajevo, Mostar, Cazin and Velika Kladuša.

Head of the Operational HQ, Security Minister Dragan Mektić, informed the attendees that the procedure for taking over the management of reception centers in Bihać (Bira and former student center) from the Service for Foreigners Affairs of BiH is underway.

Given that it is possible to have an increase in the number of migrants in the spring; one of the priorities is better control and management of migration within the territory of BiH, so as not to overburden the accommodation capacities for migrants in the Una-Sana Canton.

It has been agreed that persons who are prone to criminal activities are transferred to the Immigration Center in Lukavica.

This year, the IPA funds secured two million euros for the support and equipping of security agencies in BiH.

The costs of accommodation, food and healthcare of migrants will be financed by the European Union through international organizations in the amount of 11 million euros.

The main priority in the coming period will be to strengthen the control of the eastern border of BiH in order to reduce the entries of illegal migrants.

The Border Police of BiH will receive into service a hundred more police officers in the coming period, and soon we will have ten patrol boats on the Sava and Drina rivers, stated the BiH Ministry of Security.
