FENA Aida Kovač

SARAJEVO, February 4 (FENA) – There has been recorded stagnation and mild lowering of the water level in the basins of rivers - Una, Sana, Vrbas, as well as the upper basin of the Bosna River - due to the ceasing of precipitation, spokeswoman of the FBiH Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ), Majda Kovač, told FENA, adding that the mean flow of the Bosna River has also decreased. This, she added, is caused by yesterday's work and drainage of tributaries that bring significant amounts of water to the mainstream.

She noted that the only the water level of the Sava River is on the rise, but at the moment there is no threat of flooding in that area.

The situation in the flooded areas of the Zenica-Doboj and Central Bosnia Canton, where we had the most critical situations, today is stabilizing, and the water levels of the rivers are stagnant, even in a slight decline.

In the city of Zenica and Kakanj municipality, in the Zenica-Doboj Canton area, a state of natural disaster has been declared due to flooding. Yesterday, some fifty families had to be evacuated for their own safety.

“Today, the Civil Protection Administration of the ZDC told us that many of these people returned to their homes. Everything will be done to create the conditions for returning and those who have not returned to their homes yet,” said Kovač.

We are monitoring the Water level of the Bosna River downstream, which is also in decline, so there is no threat of spillage or endangering residential and commercial buildings.

As far as the Central Bosnia Canton is concerned, the FUCZ has put its focus on Busovača, where it was the most critical yesterday, and all the water levels are in decline.

In the area of Busovača and Kiseljak municipalities, the state of natural disaster has also been declared.

Busovača, Travnik, Vitez, Kiseljak and Novi Travnik are the municipalities in the Central Bosnia Canton which are located in this floodplain area.

During last night, traffic on the main road M-17 Lašva-Busovaca has been reestablished.

Employees of the FBiH Civil Protection Administration were also engaged yesterday in the Hadžići municipality, in Tarčin and Pazarić, where flood protection was prepared and they helped the local population and the municipal civil protection services to do prevention measures so that water could not reach the households.
