SARAJEVO, January 18 (FENA) - A statement by President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, in connection to the genocide in Srebrenica and the veto that Russia had imposed on the Srebrenica resolution, is shameful and it can be only condemned, said a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šefik Džaferović.

He told reporters today that it is an act of civilized society to condemn genocide and pay respect to victims of genocide.

“It is also utterly uncivilized to prevent the adoption of a resolution that condemns genocide,” said Džaferović.

He emphasized that the genocide in the protected zone of Srebrenica had been committed and that this has been confirmed and proven through all the judgments of the highest international judicial authorities, the Hague Tribunal judgments and numerous other rulings of the Hague Tribunal, and that no one will ever be able to change that.

“The ruling of the he International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague clearly states that the genocide in Srebrenica was carried out by the Republika Srpska Army and it is unequivocally stated there that the Republic of Serbia is responsible for this genocide because it did not take measures to prevent the genocide, and these are the facts that nobody will ever be able to dispute,” said Džaferović.

He said that the officials of the Republic of Serbia and Republika Srpska will have to face the truth eventually and begin to recognize the genocide in Srebrenica, to pay respect and build good relations on this basis alone.

“It is the only way for us to move forward. This issue will become more and more important in the future and, as soon as they face these facts, the sooner we will be able to close this chapter in our relations,” emphasized Džaferović.

He also reminded that the European Parliament adopted a resolution that has conditioned the future European path of Serbia with the recognition of the genocide in Srebrenica and the demand for a civilizing attitude towards genocide.

He reiterated that the departure of the BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik to Belgrade to welcome the Russian President during his visit to Serbia, was his private act, and that his actions and statements do not represents the officials position of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, during yesterday's visit of President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, said that the people of Serbia will never forget what Putin did in 2015, when Russia vetoed a resolution on Srebrenica, “according to which the Serb people was supposed to be labeled as responsible for genocide”.

"Putin thus protected the truth and justice," said Vučić.
