BIHAĆ, January 3 (FENA) – There are currently between 3000 and 3500 migrants and refugees in area of Una-Sana Canton (USC), and most of them welcomed 2019 in three temporary shelters: BIRA in Bihać, Sedra in Cazin and Miral in Velika Kladuša.
Most of them, around 2000 migrants and refugees, are staying in BIRA shelter, where around 80 families with children are accommodated. Over 400 persons, mostly families with children, are staying at locality of former Sedra hotel, whereas around 600 persons are staying in Velika Kladuša Miral.
"Camp in Bihać is full, however we are trying to accommodate all migrants and refugees who need shelter, especially to families with children and minors," said Manager of BIRA Mite Cilkovski.
Cilkovski confirmed that numerous non-governmental and humanitarian organizations helped collect New Year's gifts for children front migrant families.
Three daily meals and medical aid are secured in all shelters in area of Una-Sana Canton. Members of the city and cantonal organizations of the Red Cross are in charge of preparation of meals in Bihać.
"We prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner every day and we have approximately 1800 people for each meal. We continue providing families with clothes, footwear and hygiene supplies and we are very grateful to citizens of Bihać for their selfless assistance," said Secretary of the city organization of Red Cross Selam Midžić.
International Organization for Migration (IOM) confirmed that building of former Dormitory is being restored, where they plan to accommodate families with children.
This organization will also finance restoration of Trim trail and Partisan cemetery in Borići and help restoration and replacement of street lighting system in the city on Una.
