SARAJEVO, December 19 (FENA) - Melita Mujadžić, a journalist of the Una-Sana Canton RTV received a recognition for her contribution to protecting, promoting and informing on the rights of the child in BiH in 2018, awarded by UNICEF.

She is the recipient of the award in the category of TV reporting, and in the same category, a certificate of appreciation went to Ivan Katavić for his video story "Water containers as school supplies" of Liberty TV and to Natalija Todorović for "Teaching Assistant" from Elta TV.

Goran Lajić from Nezavisne novine also received a certificate of appreciation for the story about a regional school in Rekavice. Aida Hrnjić received the recognition in the blog category, and a certificate of appreciation also went to Hana Kazazović in the same category.

In the category of Internet media, the recognition was awarded to Osman Zukić and Vanja Stokić.

The internet portal Mondo.ba received letter of thanks for its overall contribution to the rights of the child and Anamarija Jelonjić-Zadro for her work on the topic of peer violence on the social media.

Acknowledgment and certificates were awarded by UNICEF Representative in BiH Geeta Narayan who said that this event is important because the role of the media is crucial for raising awareness about certain issues that might otherwise remain insufficiently covered.

She emphasized that ethical and responsible reporting can be pivotal in raising awareness and changing attitudes in people.

“We conducted a survey with 1,000 individuals in BiH in an attempt to determine the prevailing attitudes in terms of violence against children and the approach to the children with disabilities. It was interesting to see changes in attitudes and perceptions that have occurred over the past few years. We do this poll every three years and this was the third time it was conducted,” said Narayan.

Narayan noted that there has been visible improvement in how adults perceive violence against children. She point out that they know what violence against children entails, and how much it is senseless to use violence in disciplining children.
