Džaferović: Croatian Parl. has disrespected the sovereignty and integrity of BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, December 14 (FENA) - Member of the BiH Presidency, Šefik Džaferović, said that by adopting the Declaration on the Status of the Croat People in BiH, the Croatian Parliament has harshly and severely interfered in the internal matters of Bosnia and Herzegovina and has shown disrespect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“As a signatory to the Dayton Peace Agreement, the Republic of Croatia is obliged to fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to refrain from any actions that would call into question these accepted values.

By adopting the Declaration, which deals with the issues of amending the Constitution of BiH and the laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Government of the Republic of Croatia is in breach of the obligations it has undertaken by signing the Dayton Peace Agreement,” underlined Džaferović, the BiH Presidency announced.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, he added, respects the sovereignty of the Republic of Croatia and the right of the Croatian Parliament to regulate the internal affairs of the Republic of Croatia and does not interfere with these matters, and thus, expects the same attitude and behavior from the authorities of the Republic of Croatia towards Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The institutions of the Republic of Croatia cannot be the ones to resolve internal issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina will solve these issues independently and sovereignly as it is the case with all other issues of the internal organization of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Therefore, I urge the officials of the Republic of Croatia to think carefully about their attitude towards Bosnia and Herzegovina. If such a trend of interference with the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina should continue, as well as a trend of avoiding the resolving of open issues, such as the ones pertaining to borders, property and others, this will inevitably lead to distancing in mutual relations. Such an outcome would be contrary to the interests of both countries,” concluded Džaferović.
