SARAJEVO, November 30 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić welcomed today the European Parliament’s decision to adopt an amendment to the Serbia Progress Report, which expresses regret over the continued denial of genocide in Srebrenica by high-ranking Serbian officials, and insists on acknowledging and accepting the ICTY judgments.
Commenting on reporters’ questions about the issue, he pointed out that the EP’s decision was expected, and that it confirmed what is widely known and what has been said countless times before.
“Unfortunately, in this region, for whatever reasons, it is difficult for the truth to settle down with certain individuals,” said Komšić, emphasizing that the decision / amendment of the EP has confirmed "what we already knew and what we unfortunately had experienced directly during the war."
He added that he could not speculate on when a political force would appear in the Republic of Serbia that will be able to face the truth, and added that this to a great extent also depends on the citizens of that country.
MEPs voted yesterday on a resolution on the Progress Report on Serbia, and as part of the document also adopted the amendment of Slovenian MP Igor Šoltes regarding the genocide in Srebrenica, pointing out that the recognition of the Srebrenica genocide is a fundamental step on Serbia's path to EU.
