FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 29 (FENA) - Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marina Pendeš and Commander of the National Guard of Maryland, Major General Linda Singh, who is visiting BiH, expressed commitment to continuing the cooperation of these two institutions in various areas, including cyber security challenges.

The delegations of the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard of Maryland also discussed cooperation within the State Partnership Program (SPP), the army to army program, and Minister Pendeš assessed that the continuation of the cooperation would be useful for the training of members of the BiH Armed Forces for current and future missions.

Pendeš pointed to the need for the prompt activation of the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) in order to begin implementation of the Defense Review document, which is an integral part of the BiH Armed Forces Modernization Plan.

“Peace, security, stability and investments in BiH are a priority for all. I suggest that cooperation continues in the direction of civilian sector cooperation, which would further strengthen the partnership between BiH and the State of Maryland, and the public in BiH would better recognize the importance of this partnership,” she added.

General Singh expressed full support for the program of implementation of the planned activities for 2019, concerning education, exchange of experiences and joint training activities.

She also agreed with Pendeš that cooperation should be directed towards civilian sector cooperation, pointing out that the plan is to make some progress in the area of cyber security, and that BiH has a significant role to play in this regard when it comes to regional approach to this issue.

The State of Maryland has been a partner of BiH for the past 15 years, and the cooperation between BiH and the United States through the M2M (Military to Military) program is being implemented in order to increase the interoperability of the armed forces of the two countries.

This program was designed with the aim of providing assistance and support to democratic institutions and state bodies of BiH. The BiH Ministry of Defense recalls that the partnership of the two countries in recent years, despite numerous challenges on the global stage, has not been diminished.
