BRUSSELS, November 29 (FENA) - The recognition of the genocide in Srebrenica is a fundamental step on Serbia's path to joining the European Union, it is said in the amendment to the resolution proposed by Slovenian EU Parliamentarian Igor Šoltes, that was adopted today by the European Parliament as part of the debate on Serbia's Progress Report.

“The EU Parliament regrets the repeated instances of denial of genocide in Srebrenica by some Serbian officials; hereby reminding them that full cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and the Mechanism that has succeeded it, also includes the full acceptance and application of its judgments and decisions; and underlines that recognizing the genocide in Srebrenica is a fundamental step on Serbia's path to joining the EU,” it is said in the amendment submitted by Igor Šoltes on behalf of the parliamentary group the Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA).

Subsequently, the resolution was adopted in the final text with 503 votes in favor, 85 against and 47 abstentions.
