SARAJEVO, November 16 (FENA) - Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bruce G. Berton, recalled that the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice were very clear after hearing all the arguments and finding that genocide had been committed in Srebrenica in 1995.
"Any denial of this fact is an attempt to alter history," Berton added, commenting for N1 TV a statement made by Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, who in an interview with Deutsche Welle said that there was no genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995.
“When such statements are publicly given by individuals who hold certain political positions or have a substantial social impact, their negative repercussions in society are even greater. This further increases the responsibility of these individuals for the things they say,” Berton said.
He underlined that the denial of genocide makes the reconciliation process even more difficult and causes unnecessary tensions between neighboring countries, which benefits no one.
Brnabić told the DW journalist that she does not believe “that a terrible massacre in Srebrenica was in fact genocide."
She added that “it was a horrific crime, a war crime,” which she is not proud of, but stated that “this was not committed in the name of the Serb people. Serbia cannot collectively be blamed for what happened there,” said Brnabić, commenting on the genocide in Srebrenica.
