SARAJEVO/WASHINGTON, November 14 (FENA) - The situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of the topics of the conference "Elections of crucial importance in the Western Balkans and the Middle East", organized by the Transatlantic Leadership Network this week in the US Congress.
Bosnia and Herzegovina was a topic at the panel "Is the Reform agenda still alive?"
A new research center "Transatlantic Leadership Network" has been launched recently in Washington, and one of its leaders is Sarajevo-born, Saša Toperić, serving as Vice-president.
President of this center is Daniel Hamilton, Chairman of the Committee Michael Haltzel, and General Michael Barbera is the Vice-president in the project led by Toperić.
The team also gathers expert associates Edward Joseph, Jason Mason, Aylin Unver Noi, Samy Boukaila, who were professional associates at now closed Center for Transatlantic Relations SAIS.
Professor Daniel Serwer is also a member of the new research center and was moderator at the conference "Elections of crucial importance in the Western Balkans and the Middle East".
Obviously, the organizers said, Washington wants to make it clear that it wants swift continuing of reforms in BiH, which means quick formation of government.
The panel was addressed by Jasmin Mahmuzić, Director of the Banking Agency of FBiH, Dalibor Miloš, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Aluminij Mostar, with Eric Carlson, Senior Reform Advisor in BiH at the State Department, and Gretchen Birkle, Deputy Assistant Administrator of USAID for the Region of Europe and Eurasia.
Fight against corruption, the rule of law, the acceleration of reforms (in the fields of education, health and administration), as well as support to the private sector and privatization, with the necessity of implementing all the judgments that deal with discrimination (Ljubić, Sejdić-Finci, Zornić) dominated the discussion in the US Congress.
“We have become too large in our activities for the capacities that this prestigious university has for such programs. Finally, the university is primarily an educational institution where, regardless of the important programs that the Center has had in its scope of action, students are the ones that have the advantage. We already had two conferences in June - one closed to the public with experts on Libya, and the other on Iraq and Iraq’s Kurdistan.
However, we declared this conference as an inaugural. Also, the Transatlantic Leadership Network has also signed a contract with the Brookings Press Institute to jointly publish books under a contract previously signed with SAIS Center at Johns Hopkins,” Toperić said.
He announced that in 2019, the new research center will organize an energy summit of the countries of Southeast Europe, the Middle East and the United States, that will be held in June on the island of Poros in Greece. The organization will also include Piraeus University of Athens and founder of the Delhi Economic Forum, Tsomokos Group.
