Save the Children appeals to ban physical punishment of children in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 25 (FENA) - Within efforts towards preventing abuse and exploitation of children, Save the Children calls relevant organizations, institutions and professionals in BiH to stand against physical punishment of children and violent methods to discipline children, which endanger child's dignity and integrity.

BiH is currently among 56 countries of the world which obliged to implement legislative reform towards complete ban of physical punishment of children in every environment (family, day cares and other institutions where children reside).

Republika Srpska has already secured to ban physical punishment of children in every environment in its legislation, whereas the same is expected in the Federation of BiH and Brčko District, after the Council for Children of BiH launched initiative in 2017 to amend the relevant legislation, which will secure total and explicit ban of physical punishment of children, Save the Children stated.

They believe it is necessary to establish and strengthen a system to preserve safety of children in different organizations, institutions and other type of environment so all children would be treated and protected from any form of violence.

"It is very important to continue training professionals, parents, media and other actors who have contact with children and educate them on non-violent discipline methods so we can contribute to building a safer environment for growth and development of children in BiH together," Save the Children stated.
