Embassy of Ukraine in BiH: Dodik's statements are hostile

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 9 (FENA) - The Embassy of Ukraine in Bosnia and Herzegovina has reacted over the statement of the president of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) and newly elected member of the BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, calling them hostile, and saying that they could harm the relations between the two friendly countries, as well as BiH's authority in the international community.

As the Embassy said in a statement, the media outlets in BiH published Dodik’s statement "about his intention to present an initiative to recognize the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by the Russian Federation, and the City of Sevastopol (Ukraine) as part of the Russian Federation."

According to the statement, Dodik also said that he considers the "referendum” on the temporarily occupied Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea by the Russian Federation and the city of Sevastopol, legitimate and democratic, in accordance with the constitution and international law and the UN Charter on the Right of peoples to self-determination".

"Such statements are completely contradictory to the opinion and position expressed towards the Crimean referendum, the independence of Crimea and its annexation by the Russian Federation, by the European Union, the United States and the international community," said the Ukrainian Embassy in the press statement.

The Embassy also emphasized that Ukraine and the international community adhere to the position that the "referendum" and its consequences are not legitimate because they were implemented during the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, and in violation of the Constitution of Ukraine, the Constitution of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the UN Charter and international law that protects sovereignty and territorial integrity of the existing states.

It is also necessary, stressed the Embassy of Ukraine in BiH, to bear in mind that any support to violations of international law, aggression and separatism can have a strong negative impact on peace and stability in the Balkan region as well.
