Zvizdić: Future budgets to firmly support police and security agencies in BiH

SARAJEVO, September 27 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić visited today the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH and attended a tactical-demonstration exercise conducted by the officers of the directorate.

Zvizdic said to the press that the Directorate is one of the most important institutions in the overall police structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina because it coordinates 14 different police institutions and agencies in BiH.

“The BiH Council of Ministers has been very much dedicated to the issue of security and stability of BiH since the beginning, and therefore the police intelligence agencies were the first to get the increased budgets, in terms of procurement of material and technical resources and premises. Finally, we have implemented the long-intended plan to increase salaries to police officers which were unreasonably low,” he stressed.

He emphasized the professionalism and honesty of the members of the Directorate, for which he says, is "one of the best institutions at the state level".

He promised to continue the implementation of the project of permanent accommodation of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH.

“We have already secured three million KM from the clearing debt. This project is one of the priorities for our public investment program for the next three years,” said Zvizdić.

The Directorate meets all the standards, and "it is up to us to finally establish a contact point within this directorate, not only for INTERPOL but also for EUROPOL," stressed Zvizdić.

“We will do it very soon. In all the future budgets, we will firmly stand behind the police security agencies of BiH in terms of increasing the budget or meeting their demands because we consider the issue of fighting crime, corruption, extremism, terrorism, the issue of stability and security and strengthening the rule of law one of the most important tasks not only before this, but also for all the future governments of this country” he stressed.

He says that the opposition from the RS Ministry of Interior was the main reason for postponing the agreement on the location of the contact point for cooperation with EUROPOL, although it was initially agreed that the contact point should be at a place that has all the preconditions, good practice and where it is only logical for it to be.

“And that is the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, and not any cantonal or entity Ministry of Interior. We will insist on this,” said the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH.

Asked if he expects the termination of the agreement between BiH and EUROPOL, Zvizdić said that he believed that this would not happen.

“I strongly believe that BiH has been a good partner both to INTERPOL and EUROPOL. In the last three years, Bosnia and Herzegovina has been a very good partner in the field of fight against terrorism and security issues. We will act very promptly and designate the contact point,” he said.
