SARAJEVO, September 24 (FENA) – Two new projects were presented to representatives of state, entity, cantonal and municipal authorities in Sarajevo today, whose main aim is mitigating consequences of climate changes.

These are projects that are very important for BiH - "Increasing investments in public facilities with low emission of carbon" and "Improving the process of adjusting to climate changes in climate sensitive sectors". Total value of the projects, with co-financing of BiH institutions is 125 million dollars, and they will be implemented by the UN Development Program (UNDP) in partnership with local institutions.

"Both projects are financed from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), with 17.3 million dollars secured for one project and three million for the second one. Amount of co-financing of these projects comes from different levels of government in BiH in the total amount of approximately 105 million dollars," stated Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in BiH Sukhrob Khoshmukhamedov.

According to him, around 70 percent of public facilities in BiH were designed and built 30 years ago, when there was not much focus on energy efficiency.

Reconstruction of around 430 public facilities will be done within the projects (2018-2025)," added Khoshmukhamedov.

Assistant Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Admir Softić said this project will give contribution considering the commitments of BiH when it comes to drafting of the energy-climate plan for 2020 – 2030 with projections by 2050.

Director of the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund Fuad Čibukčić emphasized very good cooperation with UNDP and other partners in implementation of the project.

"We have created EMIS platform which included 3,500 facilities, we successfully implemented protection measures on over a hundred facilities, and they are mostly health institutions, kindergartens and elementary schools. We should emphasize that this way we managed to save 55 percent of energy in these facilities. There is also a Revolving Fund that was established with a zero interest rate to help these institutions and industries," said Čibukčić.
