BANJA LUKA, September 23 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić said today that the number of illegal migrants has significantly reduced and that those who enter BiH do not plan to stay in the country.

Mektić stated at the press conference in Banja Luka today that up to date, 14,969 migrants have been registered in BiH,  13,958 have expressed a wish to seek asylum, but only 399 have actually applied for asylum.

"The number of migrants has decreased considerably and with the arrival of winter, the number will be even smaller. We will try to protect the border and prevent them from entering," Mektić said, pointing out that there are still migrants in BiH, but not at all in the numbers suggested by the authorities in RS.

He reassured everyone that migrants do not want to stay in our country, they are not interested in getting asylum, and they apply for it only to temporarily regulate their status.

According to him, 761 migrants have been accepted under the readmission agreement, while 1.102 migrants have been deported from BiH based on the same readmission agreements.

"Most of them enter from Serbia from the direction of Višegrad, Zvornik, Bijeljina, they cross the Drina River and enter BiH illegally," he added.

He argued that the authorities in Velika Kladuša are obstructing the process of accommodating migrants in the "Agrokomerc" building, which the FBiH Government gave to the Ministry of Security to use for this purpose.

He says that the local authorities do not allow them the connection to the water supply network for this facility.

Security Minister Mektić noted that they did not have the trouble to cover all the costs when it comes to accommodation and transport of migrants, as they received about nine million euros from the IPA fund.
