SARAJEVO, September 23 (FENA) - Screening of the film "Lost Warrior" by Søren Steen Jespersen and Nasib Farah on Friday evening at Sarajevo's Cinema City opened the First International Documentary Film Festival, the AJB DOC (Al Jazeera Balkans Documentary Film Festival).
The festival is organized by the Al Jazeera Balkans media outlet, in cooperation with Al Jazeera Media Network and Al Jazeera Media Institute in Doha.
Director General of Al Jazeera Balkans Tarik Đođić, at the opening of the festival, said that "this opens a new chapter and that this festival will be a beautiful and useful tradition in the years ahead".
"Since the very beginning of our operation, for the past seven years, Al Jazeera Balkans has been paying close attention to the production of documentary film. Together with the news content, it is the most important segment of our television program. We strive to achieve cooperation with production companies from the region and the result is a large number of films that we have produced and broadcasted.
I believe we have the right to say that we are a regional leader in this segment. I hope that in the future AJB DOC will become a place and a platform for gathering people from the world of documentary film and media outlet representatives surpassing geographical constraints. I want the visitors in the next four days to enjoy these documentary achievements," said Đođić.
Although the festival is being held for the first time, 300 films from 30 countries have applied, and the selection team has had a tough job choosing 23 documentary films to be shown in the coming days.
Along with the screenings, the festival will also offer a training and a workshop for young authors of documentary films from the region who want to get involved in investigative journalism.
