Novalić: FBiH Railways at the threshold of achieving positive business results

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 14 (FENA) - The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the FBiH Railways, managed to solve many problems of this company, while FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić says that progress is already evident.

“Our coordinated work since the beginning of the mandate, together with the FBiH Railways management led by Director Enis Džafić, helped to solve numerous accumulated problems,” said Prime Minister Novalić in a statement to FENA and added that the railways in all countries are crucial important part of transport infrastructure.

One of the most significant steps, as Novalić said, was that in early 2017, after more than 20 years, the FBiH Railways began to regularly pay taxes and other contributions for all its employees.

“The government solved the problem of the company Revo Dobošnica, which allowed the Railways to repair their wagons themselves, which was not the case before,” Novalić pointed out.

In addition, he recalled that years-long court dispute with Končar Zagreb was resolved as well, so all the locomotives were brought back to the Federation of BiH.

“Talgo trains have been put into operation as they have been left out of use for more than ten years, and at the same time, we were paying the loan installments,” said Novalić.

Also, Novalić reminded that after the electrification of the Una railway line, the permanent line Sarajevo-Bihać has been recently established.

“We expect putting into operation the low-floor trains. An optical cable is being set up on the Sarajevo - Čapljina route. During this period, we have succeeded to bring the Railways at the threshold of positive business results. We have repaid 100 million KM of debt from the previous period and duly settled all the current liabilities,” underlined Novalić.

Considering that the FBiH Railways have 20 percent of cargo transport above the European average per kilometer, as confirmed by the World Bank, Novalić announced that the FBiH Government will significantly assist this company in the coming period by investing in railway infrastructure to ensure smooth transport of goods and passengers in BiH.

“Of the ten largest companies in BiH in terms of imports and exports, eight of them transport their freight exclusively by rail,” emphasized Novalić.
