SARAJEVO, August 24 (FENA) – Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to BiH Christiane Hohmann and director of the Enhancing Human Security (ITF) Tomaž Lovrenčič signed an agreement according to which Germany is allocating additional 200,000 euros for landmine victims in BiH.
With this agreement Germany is supporting landmine victims with a double amount this year compared to 2017, Embassy of Germany to BiH stated today.
These funds are intended for around 45 landmine victims from BiH, which will be used to make and adjust prosthetic limbs for landmine victims and procure other prosthetic aids, such as wheelchairs or hearing aids, and the International Council, which is chaired by the Germany Embassy, will make sure the aid is awarded to persons from all parts of BiH.
Landmine victims will receive new prosthetics, rehabilitation treatments, psychological support or other devices they need to reintegrate in business life through the Miracles Center in Mostar and the University Rehabilitation Institute (URI) Soča in Slovenia.
According to the data of the BiH Mine Action Center (BHMAC) there are 7,900 landmine victims in BiH, war veterans and civilian victims. Out of this number, around 1,600 are postwar victims, whereas the number of new victims has significantly decreased on an annual level.
