TUZLA, August 16 (FENA) - There is a consensus that the construction of the block 7 of the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant is necessary for the stability of the BiH energy system, and the start of construction works is expected in September this year.
The FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić says there are numerous advantages in building this block, from the standpoint of ecology, savings in coal consumption, to creation of new jobs.
“We have placed on the agenda of the session of the FBiH Government and regardless of political, in September it will go before the parliament because nobody is against this project,” said Novalić.
He added that the system of thermal power plants, as it is today, is unsustainable because some of the plants are 40 years old.
“They represent health hazard, are located in the City of Tuzla and for a long time have produced negative effects on human health. Modern thermal power plants are several times cleaner, and for example in Germany you can see that they are located in city center and by the rivers,” added Novalić.
In addition to the environmental aspect, there is also cost saving because the same amount of electricity produced consumes by a third of the coal amount, which ultimately helps save the industry.
“This economy branch is very important for the Tuzla Canton - the economy of electricity production from coal has been labeled as undesirable, but it is still impossible to bypass it. Thermal power plants are still being built in Germany, Poland, Greece, even in Sweden,” said Novalić.
Although thermal power plants are the symbols of ‘dirty technology’, in the case of BiH, most of the generated electricity still must come from them.
According to Prime Minister Novalić, Tuzla and the canton could have the new thermal block in operation in about five years at the latest.
