FBiH Government delegation visits Livno to support the local dairy industry

FENA Press release

LIVNO, August 16 (FENA) - The FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić and the ministers of agriculture, water management and forestry and displaced persons and refugees Šemsudin Dedić and Edin Ramić today visited Livno and the dairies "Puđa" and "Orman".

The purpose of today's visit to Livno by the FBiH the Government delegation was to give support to the businesses and entrepreneurs in the region.

"Speaking of agriculture, dairy industry is certainly a branch that is most developed in FBiH, and that is precisely why it gets the most support from the state," said Prime Minister Novalić said after visiting the dairy producers.

He pointed out that the allocations are still not at satisfactory level, but he expressed hope that in the forthcoming budget there would be opportunities for more money to be allocated to farmers.

He underline that dairies should be helped to position themselves the best they can on foreign markets with their branded products, because BiH has quality cheese varieties and other traditional dairy products that can be competitive with regional and European products.

"Puđa" and "Orman" dairies, he said, are excellent examples of this.

Minister Dedić said that the Livno Canton is the third in FBiH for agricultural allocations, and dairy products from that canton are recognized throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.

“Among them is the dairy producer 'Puja'. As the Prime Minister noted, our dairy industry deserves more support from the state, since it is a successful branch of agriculture providing livelihood to thousands of families in BiH,” said Dedić.

He noted that the "Pudja" dairy has about 140 subcontractors, while "Orman" has 20.

“It is important to note that we must not help farmers only by giving incentives, but we must work to strengthen the development component and find more funds for capital investments and modernization of farms,” said Dedić.

Minister Ramić said that the Livno region, where there was 30 percent of refugee population, is a positive example of return process.

He praised the determination of the population for self-employment through agriculture and livestock breeding.

“The Ministry will always be with those who work on sustainable return and try to help them as much as we can,” said Ramić.
