SARAJEVO, August 13 (FENA) - Iranian director and screenwriter Asghar Farhadi, two-time winner of the Oscar award and President of the Jury of the Competition Program - Feature Film of the 24th Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) said today in Sarajevo that in order to write a story or make a film he need to focus on the crisis that interrupts a normal, everyday life and creates a chance to get to know the characters a little bit better.
The SFF audience last evening, as part of the Open Air program, had an opportunity to watch Farhadi's latest film "Everybody Knows" (2018), staring Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem. The film officially opened this year's Cannes Film Festival and featured in its competition program.
Farhadi at today’s festival program “Coffee with…” said that his latest film, as it has been the case before, has a pronounced class difference between the characters because he is convinced that in some developed countries an ongoing and hidden class struggle is taking place.
"When I visited Spain, I realized that they also have a similar situation going on and I tried to put it in the forefront in my film," said Fahrad.
He added that he was thinking about Spain even since the beginning of writing the screenplay, because he realized that the country is culturally similar to Iran in terms of certain internal relations, but also the existence of a certain level of harmony between traditional and modern lifestyles.
Farhadi stressed that such undertakings could be risky because many directors who film in foreign countries are often unsuccessful, which is why in such situations he tries to make the film about something that is familiar and similar in his own country.
