SARAJEVO, August 7 (FENA) - Defense Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marina Pendeš and her associates met today with Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister of Defense of Qatar, Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, as part of the official visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Defense of Qatar to the BiH Ministry of Defense.
The two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and the agreement on defense cooperation between the Council of Ministers of BiH and the Government of the State of Qatar, which is in the process of approval by the Council of Ministers and the Presidency of BiH.
The signing of the agreement, as emphasized during the talks, would create preconditions for more intensive cooperation between the Council of Ministers and the Government of the State of Qatar in the field of defense, as well as better cooperation between the two defense ministries.
The officials of the two countries assessed that there are exceptional conditions and a mutual interest in cooperation in the field of education and training of military personnel of members of the armed forces of the two countries, as well as participation in peacekeeping operations throughout the world.
Al Attiyah was interested in the possibility of cooperation with the companies from the military industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which, as Pendeš emphasized, is not under the jurisdiction of the BiH Ministry of Defense, but expressed support and determination to achieve the necessary contacts between representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Qatar with the institutions in BiH that are competent for this sector.
They also talked about the current regional challenges, the EU-NATO path of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the activities of the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the country as a whole, on the fulfillment of the conditions for the activation of the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).
The Ministry of Defense of Qatar delegation also visited the Peace Support Operations Training Center (PSOTC) in Butmir, stated the Public Relations Office of the MoD BiH.
