Ivanić: Pelješac Bridge, the border and the free passage are different things

FENA Press release

BIJELJINA, August 3 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mladen Ivanić said today that everything that came from BiH on the occasion of the construction of the Pelješac Bridge was insufficiently grounded in facts, and that he expected the competent institutions would finalize the information on what are the concrete goals of BiH.

He stated that three things are being mixed with one another, the bridge, the border, and the right to free access to the open seas.

“These are three things that are not mutually connected. I consider that BiH has to have the access to the open sea, but the bridge does not limit this, because the size of the bridge will enable it,” said Ivanić.

He believes that the border issue is not in conflict with the bridge construction, nor to the access to the open sea.

In his statement to journalists in Bijeljina, Ivanić added that the EU’s position in fact is that there is no legal problem with the bridge construction.

He reiterated that in terms of migrant crisis in BiH, the border control should be increased to prevent the arrival of additional migrants in BiH.
