SARAJEVO, July 23 (FENA) - Hatidža Mehmedović, President of the association "Mother of Srebrenica", died last night at the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo.
Fadila Memišević, President of the Board of Directors of the Society for Threatened Peoples spent the last days with Mehmedović in the hospital
Memišević said that Hatidža Mehmedović was a true fighter for her Srebrenica till the very end.
“Hatidža’s last words were that she wants to return to Srebrenica, “I want to go home”. Hatidža fought for Srebrenica. She was the motive for her return, she encouraged all. She was one of those people who were true returnees and provided support to everyone. Her heart was enormous, and was big enough for everyone,” said Memišević in a statement to FENA.
Mehmedovic was the Coordinator of the Society for the Threatened Peoples and the recipient of the Society's award.
Mehmedović was a surviving victim of the genocide in Srebrenica. She lost her husband, two sons, a brother and many relatives. She was dignified and persistent in the struggle for truth about what had happened in Srebrenica in July 1995.
Hatidža Mehmedović’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, 25 July in Sućeska in Srebrenica.
