SARAJEVO, July 19 (FENA) - A collective funeral and a burial of the remains of the three victims murdered during the past war in the Prijedor area will be conducted tomorrow.

The collective funeral will be led by Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein effendi Kavazović.

Spokeswoman for the Missing Persons Institute of BiH Lejla Čengić said earlier in a statement to FENA that these are Bosniak victims aged between 26 and 44, exhumed in the earlier period in the area of Prijedor.

The youngest among them is Fikret Crljenković who was 26 when he was killed. Beside him, tomorrow, the families and fellow citizens will bury the remains of Adem Bešić and Mehmed Mulalić.

Čengić noted that the remains of the victims uncovered in 2017 in Korićani Cliffs will not be buried in this collective burial.

“We hope that all the identities will be confirmed based on DNA analysis and family identification and that the identification records would be signed. Therefore, these victims will be buried in a collective burial on 20 July 2019 in the Prijedor area,” said Čengić.

Around 3,200 persons have gone missing in the last war in the area of Prijedor. To date, 2,328 Bosniak and Croat victims have been found and identified so far.

The victims were found at more than 450 different locations, of which 99 mass graves that were discovered in the area of Prijedor, but also in other cities - Sanski Most, Bosanska Krupa, Bosanska Gradiška, Bosanska Dubica, Skender Vakuf, Bosanski Novi, Vukosavlje, Banja Luka, Hrvatska Kostajnica, etc.

Čengić recalled that the last mass grave from which the victims killed in 1992 were exhumed in the area of Prijedor was the mass grave at Korićani Cliffs (Korićanske stijene), which was discovered on 20 July 2017, and the exhumation was carried out in September of the same year.

“A total of six mass graves were discovered at the site of Korićani Cliffs. Earlier exhumations were carried out in the period from 2003 to 2013. From these five mass graves a total of 117 victims were exhumed and identified. Their identities were established on the basis of DNA analysis. In the case of the last mass grave, 135 pieces of human remains were exhumed, including 86 skulls, therefore we expect to establish the identities of at least 86 victims,” said Čengić.

Čengić also stressed that there are still 760 persons registered as missing in Prijedor area.
