European Commission pledges EUR 6 million for mitigating migrant crisis in BiH

SARAJEVO, July 18 (FENA) - The European Commission has announced the allocation of six million euros from the state program IPA 2018 for Bosnia and Herzegovina to finance migration assistance, according to the Directorate for European Integration's information on the European Commission's response to a petition for the European Union's assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the migrant crisis, which was discussed today by the BiH Council of Ministers.

The European Commission has proposed focusing on the promotion of the identification and registration of migrants and their adequate accommodation, especially in areas near Sarajevo and the Una-Sana Canton, and the continuation of provision of basic services such as food, health care, non-food products, safety, etc.

The third area relates to support to the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina to improve the capacities for border control and surveillance.

The proposed support would be realized through the Program of Special Measures and it would be done under urgent procedure, stated the Council of Ministers of BiH.
