SARAJEVO, July 17 (FENA) - Family members, relatives and friends of the victims laid flowers and said prayers remembering six young men from Srebrenica who were shot by members of the Scorpions unit in 1995 in the village of Godinjska Bara near Trnovo.

Vice President of the ‘Women of Srebrenica’ association Nura Begović told FENA that in recent years only the victims' families came to the site of the execution, but that over time the number of people who come to commemorate the victims has been increasing.

“We will visit this place each year because the recorded video had revealed that the war criminals killed the innocent civilians. About 200 persons who came here today remembered the execution but also the murder of 8,372 Srebrenica civilians,” said Begović.

Six prisoners from Srebrenica, that were captured by the Scorpions paramilitary unit on July 17, 1995, were then taken to a site in Godinjska Bara where they were shot dead.

The shooting of young men was filmed by camera, and the footage was later shown in The Hague at the trial of former Serbian President Slobodan Milošević.

The remains of the victims were found in 1998, and the bodies were identified and buried in the Potočari Memorial Center.

For this crime, Slobodan Medić and Branislav Medić, commander of the unit, were sentenced to 20 years in prison for this crime. Pero Petrašević, who admitted to the crime, was sentenced to 13 years, and Aleksandar Medić, was sentenced to five years in prison.

Aleksandar Vukov was acquitted of charges, because according to the decision of the Serbian Trial Chamber, there was no evidence that he had committed this crime.

The 23rd anniversary of the marking of the genocide against Bosniaks of Srebrenica in July 1995 will conclude today with a visit to Trnovo.

The marking began on April 6, and the most important day of the commemoration was the burial of the 35 victims of the genocide in Srebrenica.
