Poultry farmers of BiH ready for the EU market

SARAJEVO, July 13 (FENA) – Final public consultations on making of a Guide for good hygienic practice and implementation of HACCP principles in slaughterhouses for poultry were organized in Sarajevo yesterday, as a continuation of activities to support sector of poultry farming for the access to the EU market.

Consultations are led by USAID/Sweden FARMA 2 Project in cooperation with the Food Safety Agency of BiH and representatives of chicken producers and processers and poultry farmers from BiH.

Doctor of veterinary medicine and one of the managers at a slaughterhouse in meat industry "Madi" Tešanj Tarik Avdibegović said that this company has had two official visits by the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission over the past year.

He noted they fulfilled conditions, met all demands of the EU at their farms and the slaughterhouse, and secured a positive assessment through ongoing cooperation with the competent institutions.

"Latest final inspection was done at the end of May, when we were audited as one of the companies expecting the export license for the EU, and we hope we will finally get the license in the fall," he added.

Expert Andreas Wunsch, who was engaged with support of the USAID/Sweden FARMA 2 Project, presented the draft of a guide to representatives of the poultry farming sector and competent institutions.
