BRUSSELS, July 12 (FENA) - Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Bakir Izetbegović today spoke at the NATO Summit in Brussels on the contributions of the country in personnel (soldiers and officers, in various tasks) and financial support to the Afghan Army.
Izetbegović also emphasized the intention to further increase the contribution of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Resolute Support Mission in terms of sending a unit to destroy unexploded ordnance and training members of Afghan security and defense forces.
He noted that peace can be achieved by engaging relevant stakeholders in Afghanistan through a mechanism of consultation, compromise and consensus, and that sustainable peace must imply the leading role of domestic forces.
“Peace cannot be sustainable if he does not have a regional dimension, which especially refers to important arrangements with the neighboring countries, especially with Pakistan,” stated the BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović at the NATO summit.
Speaking about the indivisibility of international peace and security, Izetbegović stressed that the role of BiH should be strengthened through the Alliance in order to become a stronger and more important partner, and therefore urged NATO to send BiH the invitation to join the first Annual National Program as soon as possible, and begin the process of full of implementation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP).
He announced that BiH will continue to contribute to international peacekeeping efforts - through the UN and EU-led peacekeeping missions, by participating in all efforts to combat terrorism and other security threats and will continue to improve itself as a significant factor in international peace, security and stability.
