SARAJEVO, July 12 (FENA) - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mirko Šarović, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH and EU Special Representative to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark and Swedish Ambassador to BiH Anders Hagelberg at today's meeting in Sarajevo agreed that it is necessary to take all measures with competent institutions at the local and state level to ensure that the newly built, high-security state prison (the Correctional Facility for Execution of Criminal Sanctions, Detention and Other Measures) is put into operation as soon as possible.
The participants of the meeting talked about the need for an urgent completion of the remaining activities on the opening of the state prison.
Minister Šarović presented the representatives of the European Commission the views on announcement of possible introduction of quotas by the European Commission on imports of steel and steel products in the EU, stressing that this measure, if adopted, would cause problems from the standpoint of the Stabilization and Association Agreement under which both the EU and BiH have undertaken to respect the free market rules.
Also, Šarović pointed out that the introduction of the quotas would have a negative effect on the BiH economy, and especially the operation of the ArcelorMittal Zenica ironworks, the largest steel exporter in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which contributes with 2.5 percent to the total GDP of BiH and employs 3,000 workers.
Šarović said that in order to protect its businesses, Bosnia and Herzegovina will have to respond with appropriate measures, stated the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH.
