Government of RS against committee for implementation of Istanbul Convention

FENA Press release

BANJA LUKA, July 12 (FENA) - Government of Republika Srpska (RS) finds there is no constitutional basis to form a committee for monitoring implementation and reporting according to the Istanbul Convention and femicide and it does not accept the initiative to appoint its representative to this committee.

Entity government made this decision at today's session, where the initiative of the Gender Equality Agency and Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH was considered, regarding appointment of representative of the RS Government in the Committee for monitoring implementation and reporting according to the Istanbul Convention and femicide.

"Government of RS has assumed and is implementing all legislative and other measures to secure legal, institutional and organizational framework for prevention of violence against women, protection of victims of violence and punishing the perpetrators in accordance with the constitutional division of jurisdictions in BiH and commitments from the Convention of Council of Europe on Prevention of Violence against Women (Istanbul Convention)," it was stated.
