Zvizdić: Admitting the truth a precondition for reconciliation and progress

FENA Press release

LONDON, July 12 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić attended a ceremony in London organized by Remembering Srebrenica Foundation yesterday to mark the anniversary of genocide in Srebrenica.

Zvizdić said during his address that genocide in Srebrenica is the most atrocious crime in history of BiH, which causes great sadness even after 23 years, and still seeks the answer to a question: how was it possible for the biggest crime, massacre and genocide after World War II to take place in the heart of Europe and before the eyes of the entire world.

Srebrenica remains the biggest symbol of murder of Bosniaks, a symbol that will always remind us of crime and genocide.

Zvizdić added that Bosniaks believe that tolerance is the greatest degree of power and that forgiveness is possible, but only when those who murdered more than 8000 innocent victims publicly admit the truth, because path of true cooperation and mutual understanding is only possible by admitting crimes and taking responsibility.

"Mothers need to know who killed their sons. After this horrific crime more than 5000 children lost their fathers. Children need to know who killed their fathers. Criminals must answer for their crimes. That is the only justice," said Zvizdić.

He emphasized that Srebrenica will not and cannot be forgotten so it never happens to anyone ever again.

"Srebrenica is our eternal pain, pain that needs to be documented and discussed. We cannot build a future without facing the past," said Zvizdić.

Zvizdić thanked the UK, which has given significant contribution to building of the Memorial Center in Potočari and activities to the International Commission for Missing Persons and returnees in Srebrenica by participating in restoration and building of infrastructure, and for forming the Remembering Srebrenica organization.

Zvizdić also thanked the UK government for supporting BiH on its EU path.

He concluded by saying that BiH is fully committed to building a democratic and free society, in spirit of tolerance, mutual understanding and respecting human rights.
