Inzko: Many international officials accepted their share of responsibility

SARAJEVO, July 11 (FENA) - High Representative to BiH Valentin Inzko stated in Srebrenica today that genocide in Srebrenica and crimes committed in other parts of Eastern Bosnia and the entire country never should have happened.

"Those are all big stains on our consciousness and they cannot be removed, and many international officials have already accepted their share of responsibility for Srebrenica," said Inzko.

He said he believes that dignified funeral is the oldest human rights of every man and every victim.

"It is that right that belongs to baby Fatima Muhić, who was only a few minutes old when she was killed, Remzija Dudić who was 20 and six months pregnant, her husband Nijazija, 22 years old, and all other victims," said Inzko.

He added that in our frustration with injustice or justice, which comes slowly or not at all, in our fear that some will maybe always try and revive the ideology of evil with monuments, posters or parties named after war criminals, we should remember that citizens of BiH lived in peace and good relations for centuries, which is much longer than they are living apart right now.

"Ability of citizens of BiH to live together regardless of their differences still exists and I believe is getting stronger. Citizens of this country understand that we are mourning the victims today and thinking about what happened, but at the same time that tomorrow we need to continue with attempts to build a new world and a new BiH together and honor the victims that way," emphasized Inzko.

He emphasized that forgiveness is important for reconciliation, but we should never forget what happened for the future generations.

"We will never forget the tragedy and genocide that was committed, we will never forget Srebrenica as a warning to the entire mankind," said Inzko.
