London Summit: BiH receives EUR 275 million for three infrastructure projects

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO/LONDON, July 10 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić participated today in London in the Summit of the Prime Minister of the Western Balkans (WB6 + EU8) held in the framework of the Berlin Process.

Bosnia and Herzegovina at the London Summit nominated three projects worth a total of 275 million euros, and all three were supported by the European Commission.

These are construction on the Corridor 5C, the sections Tarčin-Konjic and Buna-Počitelj with a total value of 150 million euros and one technical assistance project on the Corridor 5C in the amount of 125 million euros. BiH also received grant funds in the amount of 5 million and 38 million euros.

In his introductory speech on the topic of economy, Chairman Zvizdić thanked the host, Prime Minister Theresa May and the Government of the United Kingdom and congratulated on the organization of the Summit and for their hospitality. He said that he was pleased by the fact that this year's summit was held in London, because it was the message that cooperation and strengthening of economic, social and cultural ties between the Western Balkans and Great Britain would continue after Brexit.

Chairman Zvizdić welcomed the fact that this year's summit opens a dialogue on some of the topics that are very sensitive and painful. He stressed that the dialogue on these issues is necessary for reconciliation in order to make efforts in a responsible, factual and argumentative way to be part of a common solution that will put to rest the issues of the past.

He added that we must be part of those forces that will give the necessary respect to all the victims, and once and for all, put the perpetrators of those horrible crimes to their rightful place, the dark corners of the past, and forever put an end to evil spirits.

“I am certain that we will all agree that the glorification of convicted war criminals, minimizing and denying feelings and showing disrespect for victims and their families, use of hate speech, warmongering rhetoric, granting recognitions to convicted war criminals, with the aim of obtaining political points are not the way in which we can build a common future,” said Chairman Zvizdić.

He added that Bosnia and Herzegovina is committed to being part of the solution, that it wants the doors of the past to be closed and end with rhetoric that resembles to that from the early 1990s. He emphasized the need for the region to turn to further strengthening of good neighborly relations, fostering dialogue and, in particular, improving economic ties in order to build a better and prosperous future.

He added that it is necessary for Bosnia and Herzegovina to obtain a candidate the status for membership in the European Union as a guarantor of further stability and prosperity, with the necessary implementation of reforms and standardization of the entire socio-economic system with European values.

Zvizdić emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains fully committed to participating in the activities of the Berlin Process and the Western Balkans Six in order to strengthen mutual cooperation in areas of importance for stability, economic development, improvement of standard of living and the creation of a positive political climate in the region.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić signed today in London at the Prime Minister's WB6 + EU8 Summit the four joint declarations of the countries of the Berlin Process.

Chairman Zvizdić, under the authority of the Presidency of BiH, signed the Declaration on War Crimes, the Declaration on Missing Persons, the Declaration on Regional Relations and Mutual Cooperation and the Statement on the Fight against Corruption.
