RECOM: It is the duty of the states to mark Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Day

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 10 (FENA) - The Regional Coalition for RECOM on the occasion of the commemoration on July 11 paid tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and called for the recognition of the established facts about the genocide committed in numerous judgments of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), as well as in the judgments of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The most horrific war crimes in Europe after World War II were committed in Srebrenica between 11 and 19 July 1995. At that time, members of the Republika Srpska Army killed 8,000 Bosniaks in just a few days and expelled 40,000 women, elderly and children from the area. The Coalition RECOM underlines that genocide is the only true name for that crime.

After the fall of Srebrenica, more than 7,900 people went missing. To date, 6,938 people killed in Srebrenica have been identified, while the remains of the victims were found at 430 separate locations, 95 of which were mass graves, said the Coalition for RECOM.

The European Parliament passed a resolution urging the July 11 be commemorated as the Srebrenica Genocide Day, and the Coalition for RECOM considers that the institutional marking of the day of remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica is the best way to pay respect to the victims and send a message to future generations.
