SARAJEVO, July 3 (FENA) - "Sarajevo and Vienna – Innovations for the Future" is the name of a conference that began in Sarajevo within "Vienna Days in Sarajevo", and this-year's slogan is "Smart city".

Director of Eurocomm-PR Sarajevo Berina Filipović-Kulenović, member of the Vienna Provincial Parliament and the City Council Marcus Schober and Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo Ivica Šarić welcomed participants and guests of the conference.

They emphasized that development of strategy "Smart Cities" is necessary, which is not profitable for technological corporations but primarily for citizens and connected citizens are engine for change for the city.

Experts Ina Homler – Smart City Project Coordinator from the Vienna City Administration, Tarik Hamzić – head of service for economic-financial and IT operations JP Sarajevo d.o.o, Patrik-Paul Voklf - from the Vienna City Administration, Nermina Zagora – Faculty of Architecture UNSA, Timur Gadžo – Information Institute of Sarajevo Canton, Rerbert Ritter –the Vienna City Administration, will exchange experiences on energy efficiency and "Smart City" strategy.

Goal of the two-day conference is to present current situations in the cities of Vienna and Sarajevo, and as Filipović-Kulenović explained experts will then define a problem and try and find a joint solution based on experiences shared by Vienna and Sarajevo and define a joint project.

"Topic 'Smart city' has a great perspective in Sarajevo because City of Sarajevo, Sarajevo Canton, local self-governance units have not adopted the strategy and I am positive this conference and experiences will be used as first steps to create our local 'Smart city' strategy," Filipović-Kulenović told FENA.

"Smart city" is the leading indicator of successful development of the city environment and its population in all aspects, so it is not surprising that Vienna has been giving such brilliant results for the past nine years.

According to statistics, even 70 percent of the population will live in cities by 2050, which clearly shows that cities need to become more sustainable in order to provide quality life to the citizens.

Energy efficiency, transport and other topics will also be discussed at the conference.
