SARAJEVO, June 28 (FENA) - Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) officially presented project for development and promotion of tourism in the Western Balkans in Sarajevo today, with the aim of harmonizing the regional tourist offer and regional routes based on common cultural-historical heritage and adventure tourism.

Secretary General of RCC Goran Svilanović said that countries of the region realize 24 percent of total export through tourism and around five percent of employees work in this sector.

"RCC will distribute up to 30 grants amounting to approximately 50 000 euros within the three-year project funded by the EU for those who will invest in regional tourist routes," specified Svilanović.

Head of Operations Section for Economic Development, Infrastructure and Natural Resources at the EU Delegation to BiH Andrea Vera emphasized that project is financed by the EU from IPA funds because it fits into the EU Western Balkans Strategy, especially in areas of social-economic development, reconciliation and good neighbor relations.

"Our aim is to identify cultural routes and destinations in the region, connect existing tourist offers of states in the region and increase number of tourist offers in the region, economic growth and employment," said Vera.

Project is worth five million euros and it is funded by the EU, and it will be implemented by the Regional Cooperation Council and its project team for the next three years.
