SARAJEVO, June 27 (FENA) - British Embassy in Sarajevo and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) welcomed adoption of the Law on Torture Victims on June 21 in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.
"Adoption of the law is an important step forward in giving the torture victims long-expected compensation. In accordance with the law, victims of sexual violence in time of war will be able to apply for status for of a torture victim and realize series of rights," it is stated in a joint statement.
They reminded those rights include financial compensation, health insurance and incentive for employment and self-employment. They hope the Law will be approved by the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska, so that rights would become accessible to victims in the shortest period.
"In order to secure equality of all victims in their access to rights, it is important for the authorities of Republika Srpska to secure efficient implementation of the Law, in accordance with the international standards in area of human rights and respecting dignity of all victims," it is stated in the joint statement of the British Embassy in Sarajevo and IOM Mission in BiH on the occasion of adoption of the Law on Torture Victims in Republika Srpska.
