SARAJEVO, June 22 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina has received additional 655 questions not because the European Commission was dissatisfied with the responses to the original Questionnaire and responses to its 3.242 questions, but because it has requested clarification in relation to certain areas.

The Directorate for European Integration of BiH (DEI) said that the European Commission has forwarded additional questions for BiH as part of the process of preparing its opinion on the application of BiH for EU membership.

The Directorate stated that the additional questions constitute 20 percent of the sum of the total number of questions from the Questionnaire submitted in December 2016. Countries in the region also had a similar proportion of additional questions to the questions in the Questionnaire.

The additional questions are being translated from the English language to B/C/S. After that, the questions will be integrated in the information system to support the preparation of the responses to the Questionnaire, and then the competent institutions will draft their answers for the overall responses of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Commission,” said Edin Dilberović, Director of the EU Integration Directorate of BiH at a press conference in Sarajevo today.

The majority of additional questions, 106 of them, refer to the political criteria, while in the economy segment the European Commission sent 33 additional questions. This is followed by Chapter 19 -Social Policy and Employment (43), Chapter 14 – Transportation Policy (39), and Chapter 26 - Education and Culture (36).

The number of additional questions fits into the average received by other countries in the region, Dilberović said.

The European Commission’s preferred deadline for submitting these additional responses from Bosnia and Herzegovina is three months, and Dilberović believes it will be easier this time for BiH. Therefore, Dilberović hopes that the deadlines can be met.

Most of the additional questions relate to political criteria.

Dilberović also said that the responses to the original 3.242 and additional 655 questions will not be the only sources in the preparation of the opinion on the candidate status of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because, there will also be institutions on the ground that will prepare their opinion for the European Commission.

“The European Commission's opinion on a potential candidate status may be conditioned or not. All countries in the region have received certain conditions,” said the Director of the Directorate for European Integration of BiH, Edin Dilberović.
