Zolj - Berton: We need to identify critical corruption spots

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 20 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Adem Zolj today met with Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Bruce G. Berton and discussed cooperation between the OSCE Mission and the Sarajevo Canton Government in the fight against corruption and in education sector.

"Fight against corruption is of great importance, which is why it is crucial to strengthen the capacities of the institutions on a daily basis, and to establish a systematic approach in the fight against corruption at all levels of government," said Berton, adding that this is an important process for the OSCE Mission.

Zolj considers it necessary to identify critical spots of corruption in order to act preventively in the future.

Berton said that the education as a whole has been politicized for a long time at all levels of government, and that children are the most affected by segregation and discrimination.

He believes that BiH has to find models that will contribute to reconciliation.

Zolj said that they plan to review the solutions offered in the new Law on Primary Education, given that no matter which language parents choose for their child to learn in school, every child should matter equally and must not feel less worthy.

“The Sarajevo Canton has given everyone the possibility of freedom of choice that will always be in line with respect for human rights and freedoms and the Constitution of the Federation of BiH,” said Zolj, and invited the OSCE to be their partners in order to come up with the best models with which everyone would be satisfied, primarily the children.

He also emphasized that the students in the Sarajevo Canton in their curriculum for history class will learn and deal with facts alone, because there is only one truth.

“The basic principles and the matrix for history textbooks are the facts about the war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the crimes prosecuted before The Hague Tribunal, the Srebrenica genocide, the official decisions of the United Nations and the European community, the Dayton Agreement, mentioning the places where civilians were killed, etc.. The truth must be known, because only the truth can provide a basis for a safer future,” said Zolj.

He added that it is necessary for young people to get informed about the facts and to mark the sufferings of civilians of all the peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina, not only in the Sarajevo Canton, but throughout BiH.

The meeting was also attended by Director of the Human Dimension Department of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Fermin Cordoba, stated the Sarajevo canton the Press Service.
