Destroy 8.300 tons of unstable explosive ordnance by 2020 (VIDEO)

SARAJEVO, June 11 (FENA) - Deputy Minister of Defense of BiH for Resource Management Boris Jerinić and Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Bruce G. Berton stated that destruction of 8300 tons of unstable and surplus explosive ordnance in BiH is planned by 2020 and that there is an increased security level of persons who perform these activities.

They took part in the session of the Strategic Committee for Weapons, Ammunition and Explosive Ordnance in BiH in Sarajevo today, where this-year's activities of Ministry of Defense of BiH were presented.

"It is planned to destroy 3000 tons of ammunition and explosive ordnance (MiMES) in 2018, of which 1.350 tons in capacity of TROM Doboj and 1.000 tons through UNDP project, 1.000 tons of specific MiMES in capacity of defense industry in BiH and abroad and 650 tons at training ground Glamoč," said Jerinić.

Armed Forces of BiH have around 15800 tons of ammunition and explosive ordnance at their disposal, of which 7500 tons are for operational needs of Armed Forces and 8300 tons surplus.

The OSCE Mission to BiH and the UN Development Agency (UNDP) are working on improving the infrastructure and conditions related to security of storing of ammunition and explosive ordnance.

"We are currently working within the Safe Up project to improve security of locations and security services for storing ammunition and explosive ordnance. We will soon complete part of the project which includes release of a laboratory for examining chemical stability in TROM Doboj," said head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Bruce G. Berton.

He added that the total value of Safe Up project is around 1.4 million euros.

Deputy Minister of Defense of BiH Boris Jerinić emphasized that the aforementioned activities would not be possible without support of donors and friendly countries, which includes the EU Delegation, the USA, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Great Britain, Norway and NATO Headquarters Sarajevo.

Host of the next session of the Committee will be the OSCE Mission to BiH.
