SARAJEVO, June 7 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency Chairman and President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović said today that the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and himself have done everything in their power to help a student Selmir Mašetović, who was arrested in Turkey on charges that he is a member of the FETO organization.
“We have worked intensively to help Selmir and my office was involved from the beginning. This is not a matter that is dealt with a conversation on a presidential level, although we have informed the office of President Erdogan about the case. This can be solved by the persistent work of our consul and ambassadors in the field and through the institution of the state, as has been the case in a couple of similar instances,” said Izetbegović in an interview with Faktor.
Speaking about the amendments to the BiH Election Law and the talks on this issue, Izetbegović argues that the demands of HDZ as such that "BiH citizens are to be forbidden from voting based on their own conscience and choice, to strictly confine them to vote only for the members of their own ethnic group, which is in complete collision with European and achieved democratic standards.”
“However, there is a minimal chance that reason prevails and that a temporary solution is adopted for these coming elections in order to avoid a crisis in the formation of executive power. This solution, of course, cannot be in conflict with the Constitution of the Federation of BiH,” said Izetbegović.
He dismissed as "unilateral propaganda" accusations coming from those close to HDZ that he is the one that propagates a unitary state and conducts a political program of a dictatorship of the majority people in BiH.
“In the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Croats account for 22 percent of the population, they account for 40 percent of the government, at the state level, where they account for 12 percent of the population, in the government they participate with 33 percent, and so forth. And this is regularly at the expense of Bosniaks. Therefore, Bosniaks in the near future will have to fight for the end of the dictatorship of the minority over the majority, for the position that belongs to them under the Constitution - a proportional representation in the formation of the structures of power,” Izetbegović said in an interview with Faktor.
He assessed that representatives of the international community, especially the EU, have decided to integrate the entire Western Balkans into the EU and to support positive processes and "oppose the retrograde forces".
“In late June, the EU Council should adopt conclusions regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which all those who pose blockades will be called to responsibility for obstructing the processes and adoption of the aforementioned laws, but also for proposals that are in direct conflict with the Sejdić-Finci judgment, for a rhetoric that calls for divisions and glorification of war criminals,” said Izetbegović.
