BANJA LUKA, June 4 (FENA) - A contingent of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH AF) was sent off today to participate in the "Resolute Support" mission in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Lieutenant General Senad Mašović, Head of the BiH AF Joint Staff, emphasized that BiH had shown its strong commitment to continuing its participation in peacekeeping missions around the world.

„And in this way we want to promote the values of BiH, but also to facilitate BiH's path to EU and NATO integrations,“ Mr. Mašović emphasized.

Commander of the BiH AF Sixth Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Radovan Jović said that 53 soldiers were going to this peacekeeping mission after intensive preparations have been carried out so they could fulfill all the tasks set before them.

Deputy Defense Minister Boris Jerinić reminded that this was the eighth rotation of the Sixth Infantry Brigade with 45 soldiers and the second rotation of the BiH AF Military Police consisting of eight members.

BiH Armed Forces, he said, have been present in Afghanistan since 2009, and more than 1,300 members were part of the peacekeeping mission.

Mr. Jerinić, responding to journalists' questions, denied allegations by the BiH Defense and Security Committee member Dušanka Majkić that a military exercise on Manjača, with A-10 aircraft using ammunition with depleted uranium, would be conducted next year in May.

He reminded that in September the BiH Presidency would adopt a plan of international exercises for the next year.

„I assure with full responsibility the residents of Manjača and Banja Luka that there will be no shooting at Manjača and nowhere in BiH, especially not with the use of depleted uranium, not even with the use of live ammunition,“ Mr. Jerinić said.
