US Ambassador Maureen Cormack visits the Mufti of Mostar

MOSTAR, May 31 (FENA) - Ambassador of the United States of America to Bosnia and Herzegovina Maureen Cormack visited on Wednesday the Mufti of the City of Mostar where she met with Mostar Mufti Salem effendi Dedović.

The delegation of the US Embassy included the Human Rights Political Advisor Bryan Wockley and Assistant for Human Rights and Religious Freedoms at the Political Section Ante Miliš.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Department of Religious Affairs and Education of the Mostar Mufti, Ilham effendi Puce.

Mufti Dedović thanked for the visit and expressed a warm welcome to the Ambassador Cormack and informed her about organizing of the religious activities in the area of ​​Mostar Mufti, extending over the wide geographical area of ​​Herzegovina and part of the southwest Bosnia.

The two also talked about the processes of inter-religious cooperation in this region.

Ambassador Cormack emphasized the importance of quality education through promoting values ​​of love and fidelity to the area where young people live, giving strong support to the processes of bringing young people closer to one another.

Mufti Dedić and Ambassador Cormack talked about the political situation in BiH as well, with particular emphasis on the negotiations on the City of Mostar and inability to hold the local elections.

The Mufti stressed that the political vacuum in Mostar is still present and that power is practically in the hands of one man.

He said that Mostar has always been an open and free city, where Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats lived together and that it should stay that way.

He expressed hope that a political agreement would be reached on the future of the City of Mostar, stated the Office of the Mufti of Mostar.
