Zvizdić-BGIPU Delegation: BiH-UK economic relations are modest

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, May 28 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić met today in Sarajevo with a Delegation of members of the British Group Inter-Parliamentary Union (BGIPU), who are on a several-day visit to BiH, with whom he discussed the European integration and economic cooperation.

Mr. Zvizdić thanked the Delegation led by BGIPU Chairman Nigel Evans for the support and assistance that the United Kingdom had provided BiH through the British-German initiative, which has given a new positive momentum for launching the reform process and accelerating BiH's EU integration.

He pointed out that the support of the United Kingdom in the BiH’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes was significant, adding that BiH appreciates the support of the UK in the process of BiH's integration into the European Union, as one of the biggest advocates of the EU enlargement.

He expressed the belief that even after leaving the European Union, the United Kingdom would continue to support reform processes in BiH on its path to the EU.

The members of the British Group Inter-Parliamentary Union commended the progress achieved by the BiH Council of Ministers over the past three years, voicing hope that in the forthcoming period, the path to the European Union and the NATO alliance will be even faster.

They also discussed the upcoming Western Balkans Summit to be held in London on July 9 and 10, where economy, security and politics are expected to be main topics, the Council of Ministers said.

The collocutors concluded that the economic relations between BiH and the United Kingdom were modest, but with significant potential, and that the foreign trade exchange between BiH and the UK for 2017 marks significant growth compared to the previous period.

Chairman Zvizdić thanked the UK Government for the importance it gives to marking the memory of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, which will be marked this year in London and other cities throughout the United Kingdom.
